The first thing to realize if you are interested in how to lose weight and belly fat is that it is not as easy as some of the fad diets claim it is. You cannot expect to lose 20 pounds in a couple of weeks and you need to start by setting realistic ambitions and making a few permanent but easy changes to your lifestyle.

Losing weight should ideally be done naturally and with a degree of patience and most importantly, commitment. It cannot be stressed enough that a degree of exercise and a generally healthy diet is the key to losing weight. A lot of people go in for fad diets were diet pills, which are often counterproductive and do not help you to maintain a low weight once you have finished the program.

Losing weight and belly fat requires a degree of commitment. This may also come as a surprise to some, but one of the most important steps to healthy eating and losing weight is to actually eat 5 small meals a day. What you want to do is find out how many calories you should be consuming, let’s say 1800 calories. If you divide this number by 5, then you have roughly 36o calories per meal.  This will help to speed up your metabolism, which in turn speeds up the time it takes for your body to absorb and digest food. If you are going to skip meals or try to starve yourself, you will find the you leave yourself open to a number of medical ailments and you’ll be slowing down your metabolism.

Getting into a regular exercise routine is also an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This does not necessarily mean that you need to go to the gym five times a week to keep fit. It means making some simple changes and instead of watching television for half an hour, why not take a walk round the block a few times per day?

Something that can be done in the home that is very simple is using a jump rope.  We’ve all seen boxers use this during their training. Start off by jumping rope for 1 minute straight with no rest. After you complete that, rest for a minute and jump rope for a minute. Do this 3 – 4 times a week if you seriously want to lose weight and belly fat.  The goal should be to complete 3 minutes of jump rope, rest 1 minute, and start again.  When you can do this for 10 (3 minute) rounds, then you will have burned a lot of body fat.

Start off easy with the 1 minute and work your way up slowly. For instance, start with the 1 minute routine for 3 weeks, and then go to 1:30 for 3 weeks and so on…
